How to take care of your new tattoo

CLING FILM

Gently remove cling film 2-3 hours after tattoo is finished. Wash carefully in warm water. Rinse and gently pat dry with a kitchen roll or tissue, don’t use toilet roll.

Always make sure that your hands are clean before applying cream or use disposable gloves.

Start next step 48 h after tattoo session.

Gently apply a thin layer of a tattoo aftercare product twice a day for approximately 10 days (avarage healing time for a tattoo) apply thinly as too much prevents the skin/tattoo from breathing and can cause leaching of the colours. If this happens, discontinue use, wash the tattoo, pat dry and consult your tattoo artist at your earliest convinience.

Don not apply alcohol-based products, hydrogen peroxide or hause, Vaseline, lanolin or petroleum based products.

After 5 to 14 days, the tattoo may start to peel (This is normal - like a sunburn) and scab. Do not pick or peel the skin away. Let it fall off naturally during washing or application of tattoo cream. Fresh skin will soon replace the dead skin. Colours may fade during the process, but will return when healing is completed.

After a few weeks, all scabbing will be gone, but the area may still be sensitive. Continue regular cleaning and application of ointment or proper aftercare of your tattoo. Do not scratch.

To avoid any possibility of bacteria transmission do not allow anyone to touch your tattoo until healing is complete.

-Don’t drink alcohol or take any drugs 1 day before and minimum 4 days after.

-Wear clean clothes. Cotton is recommended.

-Avoid contact with woollen/synthetic clothing.

-Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing or any material which will damage your tattoo.

-Avoid areas where bacteria could be present.

-Avoid direct sunlight, sunbeds, UV, bathing in saltwater or water with chlorine content (swimming pools), saunas.

-Wait at least 20 days before swimming in the sea or pool or using the sauna. Before exposing your tattoo to strong sunlight or UV, wait at least 20 days and use a high factor sun cream.

Exposure to the sun is the major cause of tattoo fading, but after a few months you may sunbathe in moderation. Always use a sunblock (at least SPF 30 suncream provides UVA and UVB protection).

If your experience any reaction to ointment provided, discontinue use and consult your tattoo artist.

In the future it is recommended to moisturize your tattoo once a week with a body lotion.

How to take care of your skin after getting a piercing

1. Regular Cleaning

Clean your piercing with saline solution twice a day, morning and evening, until fully healed.

Repeat this for first 8 weeks and whenever your piercing is irritated.

During first week you can use infusion of sage, should relieve discomfort and swelling. If you don't know how to do one at home, as Kate!

2. Always wash your hands

Before you start cleaning your freshly pierced skin.

Not following this step can cause infection, your piercing does not require any rotation during healing so do not touch it if your hands are not freshly cleaned.

3. Don't change your jewelery

Please don't try to change your jewelery (piercing) too soon.

For example:

 - Earlobe piercing can be changed over after first 6 weeks, it takes 6-8 weeks for the earlobe to heal fully

 - Cartilage piercing can take up to 4 months to exchange piercing, fully healed after 9-12 months.

4. Avoid Swimming

Please do not swim in public pools, open waters (sea, loch), microbiology of waters is high in bacteria and viruses concentration.

5. Sleep

Avoid sleeping on fresh piercing, if possible use travel cushions (donuts), using some support will reduce pressure on piercing which will result in better comfort and will help to avoid complications.

6. Solutions to avoid

Do not use any oils and ointments, contact lenses solutions, any peroxide products.

Savlon, alcohol is not permitted, long-term use can cause skin irritation and complications in recovery of your soft tissue.

7. Alcohol and drug use

Try not to drink or do drugs before your piercing procedure and up to 48hrs after.

Disclaimer: these are directions for some piercing that can ease your healing.

If you have any prolonged redness (after 2-3 weeks), fluids or squeeze in your piercing please contact your piercing specialist.

Don't wear any thick or irritating clothes, loose clothes can prevent irritation of the piercing,

Be careful when doing your body washing routine any pull on fresh piercing can result in irritation.

General advise about mouth piercings:

Mucus membranes are naturally healing faster and without complications due to moisture conditions but to help relieve swelling you can use sage infusion (cold) or ice cubes for short periods of time.

How to take care of your skin after laser tattoo removal

The following notes are important. Please read them carefully.

Before Treatment

• Avoid exposure to sunlight, sun-beds and fake tan for at least 4 weeks.

• If the tattooed area is covered by hair, please shave the area 1 day prior to treatment.

• Do advise us of any change in medication.

After Treatment

• Normally there is erythema and edema immediately after treatment. Apply an ice pack after treatment to remove the heat from treated area and reduce discomfort. DO NOT apply ice directly to the skin, use a kitchen paper towel and exchange it when wet.

• If skin is unbroken, the area is best left alone completely for 24 hours.

• After 24 hours antiseptic ointment or 1 % hydrocortisone cream (available “over the counter” at most chemist) can be used up to 3 times a day for 7 days. Aloe Vera gel can also help improve skin comfort. Aftercare cream will be provided by Agnes.

• Sterile dressing will be used to cover area after treatment. It may be necessary to use a dressing for the duration of healing to protect the area if there is a risk of rubbing on clothes.

• DO NOT pick or rub, picking at scabs or allowing the treated area to get scaped increases a risk of getting an infection and developing a scar.

• Your skin will be fragile for 2 to 3 days. Use gentle cleansers, but do not rub the skin vigorously and avoid hot water during this time. Skin moisturisers may be used and make-up can be applied if the skin is not broken.

• Avoid sun exposure and tanning creams during the entire course of treatments. Use SPF 30 or greater on the treatment area at all times.

• Avoid soaking for 24 to 48 hours. No hot tubs, whirlpools or baths, but showers are okay.

• Avoid excessive sweating for 24 to 48 hours. No saunas or vigorous working out.

• Keep areas well moisturised and allow scabs to fall off on their own. This is an expected occurrence with tattoo/pigment removal.

• Avoid irritants such as Retin-A, Retinol, Renova, glycolics, bleaching creams and exfoliants for one week.

• Refrain from alcohol for 3-7 days.

• It is best avoid smoking for a period of several weeks before and after your procedure, as smoking constricts the capillaries and taxes the immune system, thereby slowing healing and results

Whilst Healing

• Avoid restrictive clothing.

• Avoid perfume or body lotions to the area.

• Avoid hot baths or continuous soaking.

• Avoid heat treatments such as saunas and steam rooms.
